About Me
I initially showed interest in golf at the age of 3, when I received a set of clubs for my birthday. However, it was not until I was 12 that I started playing more seriously, when I joined Coventry Golf Club where my father, John, is a member.
As with all juniors, I played all day, every day through my school holidays and started to improve and achieved a handicap of 9 in two years.
By the age of 16, I was playing off 3 and started to play for Warwickshire Boys Team. I reached scratch at 20 and was by then playing for Warwickshire Men’s Team. After attending St Andrews University, where I studied Geology for 4 years, I started work. I maintained my golf to a solid County level of play, until April 2003 when an opportunity to play full time arose.
On a decent start to this new career, I first represented England in a tournament in Mexico in March 2004. This was an amazing experience which only helped increase my desire to achieve. However, not until 2005, things really started to come together. The pinnacle of my career to this point came on my selection for the 2005 Home International team. The tournament was played at Royal St Georges in September 2005. I played all six matches taking 4 points in the series.
2006 was a slow season in comparison to the highs of 2005, with moderate successes. 2007 started well and with this momentum I reached the final of the English Amateur Championship but was unsuccessful, losing 3 and 2 to Daniel Willet. Undeterred, 2 weeks later I captured the British Mid Amateur Championship, winning 5 and 4 in the final at Alwoodley G.C., Leeds.
The form I showed through this season again lead to my selection for the Home International team, which was played at County Louth in Ireland. Again I took 4 out of a possible 6 point. This time I was part of a winning team which was a fantastic feeling for all the hard work by everybody involved.
2008 started with a trip to Australia for 5 weeks, this tour started with a win at Avondale G.C., Sydney. The season continued in a solid fashion, until late June where the decision to turn professional was soon approaching.
Eventually I turned professional in mid July, playing on invites, on several different tours I soon got into things with little adjustment to my game. Results for this new career are available under the Career link.
